About this practice

Punctuation typing practice makes the awkward marks automatic. Commas and periods are easy, but colons, semicolons, quotation marks, brackets, and dashes usually require the Shift key or a stretch away from the home row — and that's where most typists hesitate. This drill packs those characters into natural sentences so you rehearse them in realistic context rather than as isolated symbols. As you practice, keep your non-typing fingers anchored on the home row so your hand has a stable base to reach from, and let the Shift-key combinations become one smooth motion rather than a stop-and-reach. Smooth punctuation is one of the most visible marks of a polished typist, and a little focused practice here pays off in every email and document you write.
