About this test

The custom time typing test lets you decide exactly how long to type, from a quick 10 second burst to a 30 minute endurance run. Custom lengths are useful when you're training for a specific requirement — say a two-and-a-half minute assessment — or when you simply want a length the preset tests don't offer. Everything else works the same: the timer measures real elapsed time, your speed and accuracy update live, and the full results breakdown appears when time runs out. Longer custom durations make the consistency score and time chart more meaningful, while shorter ones are best treated as warm-ups. Pick a length that matches what you're preparing for and keep your pace steady throughout.

How to use it

  1. Choose a duration with the slider or number field (10 seconds to 30 minutes).
  2. Click the typing area (or just start typing) to focus it.
  3. The timer starts the moment you press your first key.
  4. Type the text exactly as shown; correct characters turn green, mistakes turn red.
  5. Use Backspace to fix mistakes, or keep going — your choice.
  6. When the test ends, review your WPM, accuracy, and consistency.

Frequently asked questions

What durations are allowed?

Anything from 10 seconds up to 30 minutes.

How is WPM calculated?

One word is defined as five characters. Gross WPM = characters typed ÷ 5 ÷ minutes; Net WPM uses only correctly typed characters. See our methodology page for details.

Which length should I pick?

Use 1–2 minutes for a reliable everyday benchmark, or 5+ minutes to test endurance.

Is my typing sent anywhere?

No. Your keystrokes and results are processed entirely in your browser and are never uploaded to our servers.
